Cowboys

We hitched our horses
to the white picket fence,
tightened our holsters
for a swayed stroll across Elm street
to Patrick's house,
and a peanut butter sandwich.

The woodshed roof
is sagging
from the weight of too much sky.
Perhaps one more full moon
will be its demise,
and the weathered wood
will end in a pile.
Fuel for the Winter stove.
